Meet the team: Sabrina Dhillon, Retrofit Consultant

At WPS, our people are at the heart of everything we do. Through our ‘Meet the team’ series, we’re shining a spotlight on the individuals whose expertise, passion and commitment are helping to deliver positive outcomes for our customers, communities and partners.

In this edition, we meet Sabrina Dhillon, Retrofit Consultant at NetZero Collective – our in-house PAS2035 and PAS2038 specialists – who is helping clients to deliver warmer, healthier and more energy-efficient homes for residents.

Finding a career with purpose

“My move from the legal sector into retrofit came through working on a UK Government initiative aimed at tackling fuel poverty and reducing carbon emissions. Supporting low-income households to make their homes warmer and more energy efficient was incredibly rewarding, and it gave me a real sense of purpose.

I quickly realised that this was an area where I wanted to build a long-term career. Alongside working, I continued to study and gain additional qualifications so that I could deepen my knowledge and help even more people. Balancing work and study wasn’t always easy, but it has been worth every effort and has ultimately led me to where I am today.

Delivering healthier, more energy-efficient homes

“I recently joined NetZero Collective as a Retrofit Consultant and work closely with WPS to deliver warmer, healthier and more energy-efficient homes for residents across the Midlands.

What I’ve enjoyed most since joining is being part of a team that genuinely values and supports one another. It’s a collaborative environment where everyone is working towards the same goals, and from the moment I joined, I felt trusted and encouraged to continue developing my career. There hasn’t been a single point where I’ve questioned whether this is the right path for me.

A passion for learning and making a difference

“One of the things I love most about working in retrofit is that the industry is constantly evolving. Government schemes change regularly, new technologies emerge and there is always something new to learn.

I thrive in environments where I can continue challenging myself while making a meaningful difference. Seeing a home transformed through retrofit is incredibly rewarding, not only because of the improvement in energy efficiency, but because of the impact it has on the people who live there and their quality of life.

I particularly enjoy helping residents understand the technologies being installed in their homes, whether that’s solar panels, heat pumps or other energy-saving measures. Every property is different, and one of the most satisfying parts of my role is finding solutions that work for each individual home and giving residents the confidence to embrace those changes. Currently, I’m coordinating two major retrofit projects across the Midlands, overseeing improvements to around 120 homes. It’s an amazing feeling to be part of work that is helping to reduce the carbon footprint of homes and buildings while creating lasting benefits for communities.

Advice for anyone considering a career in retrofit

“For anyone thinking about a career in retrofit, I would say that strong communication skills, a willingness to learn and a genuine desire to help people are essential.

A big part of the role involves working closely with residents and explaining technical solutions in a way that builds trust and confidence. If you’re motivated by seeing tangible results and making a lasting difference, it’s a career that’s well worth considering.”
