What to expect at your annual gas safety check

Annual gas safety checks are a legal requirement for all social homes.

At Liberty, we support landlords across the UK to help keep tenants safe and ensure all gas appliances are working as they should. If we’re visiting your home for a gas safety check, here’s what you can expect.

Before your appointment

We’ll send you a letter to let you know your gas safety check is due. This will include a proposed date and time for your appointment.

  • If the appointment works for you, no action is needed
  • If it’s not convenient, you can contact us to arrange a time that suits you better

To help the visit run smoothly, please make sure your gas appliances are easy to access, including:

  • Gas meter
  • Boiler
  • Cooker
  • Gas fires
Operative visiting a home

When we arrive

Your engineer will:

  • Arrive at the agreed time
  • Show their Liberty ID card before entering your home
  • Explain what they will be doing

This helps you feel confident that you’re letting the right person into your home.

During the safety check

The engineer will carry out a series of checks to make sure your gas appliances are safe and working efficiently. This includes:

  • Checking your gas meter for any leaks or damage
  • Testing your boiler by running it for a short period
  • Using specialist equipment to check it is operating safely and efficiently
  • Adjusting settings if needed

If you have other gas appliances, such as a cooker or fire, these will also be checked.

After the check

Once all checks are complete:

  • The engineer will confirm the work carried out
  • You may be asked to sign to confirm the visit
  • They will leave your home clean and tidy

You will then receive your gas safety certificate by post or email.

And that’s it

Once your check is complete, your appliances will be safe and ready to use for the year ahead.
